Hilo, on The Big Island of Hawaii is a coastal town that overlooks Hilo Bay. The Hilo area is always lush and green due to an annual rainfall of over 70 inches per year, it's one of the wettest cities in the USA.

The Hilo region is blessed with dramatic waterfalls, lush rainforests and beautiful gardens; the geographic flipside is the volcanic Kohala Coast. Mauna Loa, is considered an active volcano and Mauna Kea, is a dormant volcano where some of the best astronomical observatories in the world are located.

Hilo is home to the Hilo International Airport and the local favorite The Merrie Monarch Festival, a week-long celebration of ancient and modern hula, which takes place annually after Easter. It's also home to the Mauna Loa Macadamia Nut Corporation. Hilo is also the gateway to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park located 45 minutes south.

The single biggest attraction on the Big Island of Hawaii is the volcanoes found in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. The volcanoes of Kilauea have been going off non-stop since the mid nineteen seventies. Imagine watching magma as it ooze's from the vents slowly but steadily making its way down the mountain to the sea coast.

Choose from thrilling helicopter tours, soar over Kilauea Volcano, imagine a dramatic remote landing for a refreshing swim under a waterfall, followed by a return drive that visits scenic waterfalls and tropical rainforests, that dream can be your reality!

One of several tour choices you have is with the very first Big Island hiking company "Hawaiian Walkways" they have several amazing educational and adventurous tours that encompass the disciplines of geology, biology, climatology and other scientific disciplines interwoven in the structure of the tour.

KapohoKine Adventures has provided excellent service over the years being both sophisticated and luxurious enough to be awarded the Princess Cruises "Best Tour" these adventures are always personal with tour groups generally not exceeding thirteen passengers and so you will be able to have all your questions answered by your informative, park ranger trained tour guides. You can choose to be treated to special interpretive walks in the National Park, through the forests, lava tubes, past steam vents and have an opportunity to visit and spend time in the Jagger Museum at the crater rim of the mighty Halemaumau. Some tours will occur in the day time and others will take you to the volcano in the evening where you'll be able to see the molten red lava light up the night. Many of the locations you may visit are off-limits to most visitors and locals alike as they are located on private land and special permission has been given to KapohoKine Adventures by the landowners to visit.
